Navy Rescues Seriously Ill Fisherman from Eastern Sea

The Sri Lanka Navy successfully brought ashore a fisherman who fell seriously ill while engaged in fishing activities in the eastern sea off Trincomalee on October 3, 2026, and transferred him to hospital for further treatment.

The multi-day fishing vessel ‘Venusha Putha’ had departed from the Trincomalee Fisheries Harbour on October 1. While fishing approximately 11 nautical miles off Trincomalee, one of the fishermen on board became seriously ill and required urgent medical attention.

Following a request for assistance from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to the Colombo Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), the Navy deployed P 460 Fast Attack Craft, attached to the Eastern Naval Command, for the rescue operation.

The fisherman was transferred to the naval vessel and provided with initial first aid before being urgently brought to the Trincomalee Harbour. He was subsequently transferred to Trincomalee District General Hospital for further medical treatment.

The Sri Lanka Navy continues to remain ready, in coordination with the Colombo MRCC, to provide timely assistance to maritime and fishing communities facing emergencies within Sri Lanka’s maritime search and rescue region.
