“Nation United” Council discusses death penalty for drug-related crimes

The “Nation United” National Operations Council has discussed the possibility of imposing the death penalty for drug-related offences.
The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Council held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (10), chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The meeting focused on measures to strengthen the country’s response to drug-related crime, with the death penalty for serious drug offences among the issues considered.
