Namal Rajapaksa Appears Before Fort Magistrate’s Court in Krrish Case

Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, was brought before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today, September 30, in connection with the ongoing Krrish transaction case being investigated by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Rajapaksa was brought to court in a prison bus for proceedings related to the case. He was named as the fourth suspect in the Krrish case on September 28. The investigation concerns allegations relating to a payment of Rs. 70 million in connection with the proposed development of Urban Development Authority-owned land at Transworks Square in Colombo Fort. The allegations remain subject to ongoing court proceedings.

Supporters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) were also gathered outside the court premises.

Important update: Reports from today indicate that Rajapaksa was granted bail in a separate Airbus-related money-laundering case, but he remained in remand custody because bail had not been granted in the Krrish proceedings.
