Namal further remanded over Airbus probe

SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa was yesterday further remanded until September 29 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court in connection with an investigation into the alleged misuse of approximately US$2 million in the procurement of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.

Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (18) as a suspect in the investigation.

He was recently named as a suspect in a money laundering investigation into alleged financial irregularities surrounding the 2013 procurement of Airbus aircraft by SriLankan Airlines.

Rajapaksa was named as a suspect following instructions from the Attorney General after investigators submitted material relating to the case.
