Civil Society Activists Inspect Miracle Dome City Site Amid Environmental Concerns

A group of civil society activists visited the proposed Miracle Dome City project site in Katunayake following concerns and claims circulating on social media regarding its potential environmental impact.

During the visit, the group inspected the premises and reviewed measures relating to environmental protection, land preservation and the planned development of the property.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, civil society representative Sanjaya Mahawatta said the conditions observed at the site did not correspond with some of the claims circulating online.

He said the group had visited the site to assess allegations of environmental harm and observed what he described as environmental protection and preservation measures.

Mahawatta also referred to a planned 1,500-bed facility, saying it was intended to provide accommodation and care for people who are poor and suffering from illness.

“The allegations online do not reflect the reality on the ground,” he said.

Meanwhile, Miracle Dome management said it remains committed to environmentally responsible development and responsible land stewardship, adding that planned activities at the site are continuing as scheduled.
