Rising Swimming Star M.F. Muhammad to Represent Sri Lanka at 2026 Commonwealth Games

Young swimming sensation M.F. Muhammad has been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, stepping in after Kyle Abeysinghe withdrew from the competition due to illness.

A member of the KWA Elite Group, Muhammad enters the prestigious multi-sport event following an impressive season, highlighted by his medal-winning performance at the 2026 Asian Age Group Swimming Championships held in Bangkok.

The talented swimmer will compete in three events at the Commonwealth Games — the men’s 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 50m butterfly — the same events originally assigned to Abeysinghe.

Muhammad’s selection reflects his rapid progress and growing reputation in international swimming. His recent achievements have showcased his potential and determination to compete among the region’s best, while his inclusion in Sri Lanka’s Commonwealth Games squad marks another important milestone in his sporting journey.

His participation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games is expected to further highlight the emergence of a new generation of Sri Lankan swimmers making their mark internationally.
