Maliban Takes Its Iconic Biscuit Aroma Across Sri Lanka in Landmark Campaign

For decades, the unmistakable aroma of freshly baked Maliban biscuits has been a cherished part of life around Ratmalana’s famous Maliban Handiya. Now, in a first-of-its-kind initiative, the brand has taken that signature scent beyond its hometown, sharing it with communities across Sri Lanka.

The campaign was launched to celebrate Maliban being named the No. 1 Most Loved Product Brand in the LMD Readers' Choice Most Loved Brands 2026. As part of this milestone, the company recreated its iconic biscuit aroma at key public locations nationwide, allowing thousands of Sri Lankans to experience a sensory hallmark once unique to Ratmalana.

Special scent installations were set up in high-traffic areas such as bus stops, highway exits, cinemas, and urban hubs in cities including Pettah, Makumbura, Kandy, Kurunegala, Galle, and Anuradhapura. Using liquid evaporiser technology, these installations released the warm, nostalgic fragrance associated with freshly baked Maliban biscuits, drawing in curious passersby and long-time fans alike.

At selected highway locations, the experience went a step further. Travellers were offered curated packs of Maliban biscuits infused with the familiar “Maliban Suwada,” combining aroma and taste to create a memorable, multi-sensory brand encounter.

For many Sri Lankans, the scent of Maliban has long been tied to everyday moments—school days, family tea times, and shared memories across generations. By extending this experience beyond Ratmalana, the brand transformed a localised tradition into a nationwide celebration of familiarity and connection.

A company spokesperson noted that the initiative was designed to bring people closer to a shared cultural memory while reinforcing the brand’s deep-rooted bond with consumers. With over 70 years of heritage, Maliban continues to build on its legacy of quality and trust while finding creative ways to connect with modern audiences.

This nationwide activation not only showcased innovation in brand storytelling but also turned ordinary public spaces into meaningful touchpoints—each carrying the comforting essence of a place many know by name, and now, by experience.
