The Lions Roar in Leeds! Sri Lanka Seal Sensational 16-Run Victory Over England

Sri Lanka ended a seven-year wait for an ODI victory over England in England, securing a thrilling 16-run win at Headingley in Leeds.

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total, with Kusal Mendis producing a sensational century of 121 runs from 100 balls to earn Player of the Match honours.

England were unable to chase down the target as Sri Lanka’s bowlers held their nerve to seal a memorable victory and level the three-match ODI series 1-1.

Sri Lanka’s previous ODI victory over England on English soil also came at Headingley, during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. On that occasion, Lasith Malinga claimed 4/43 as Sri Lanka successfully defended 232 runs to win by 20 runs.

With the series now level, the two teams will meet in the final ODI with the series victory at stake.
