Level 3 landslide warning issued to several areas in six districts extended

The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) has announced the extension of Level 3 (Red) landslide evacuation warnings across multiple high-risk areas situated in six districts. The decision follows torrential downpours that have lashed the island's central and western slopes, leaving hillside soils excessively saturated.

According to the NBRI, the warning applies to specific mountainous terrains and steep slopes vulnerable to sudden slope failures, cut-slope collapses, and rockfalls. Local administrative officers and disaster management units have been instructed to facilitate the immediate evacuation of residents residing near demarcated hazard areas.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant for pre-landslide signs, such as emerging cracks in the ground or house foundations, tilting trees and utility poles, and the sudden appearance or muddiness of spring water. Emergency relief centers and temporary shelters have been activated to accommodate displaced families until rainfall subsides.
