Landslide warnings remain in effect across seven districts

The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) confirmed that landslide early warnings issued across multiple divisional secretariat divisions in seven districts remain active amid persistent torrential rains across Sri Lanka.

The warnings cover vulnerable mountainous areas and steep slopes where continuous precipitation has increased soil saturation, raising the risk of slope failures, rockfalls, and sudden ground subsidence.

Disaster management authorities have advised residents living in identified danger zones to be watchful of pre-landslide symptoms—such as cracks in the ground, developing fissures in buildings, and tilting trees—and to relocate promptly if warning levels escalate.
