Kotaleeya Bridge construction in Polonnaruwa nears completion

Construction of the Kotaleeya Bridge in Polonnaruwa is rapidly progressing, with authorities planning to complete the project by April next year.

The bridge, located on the Maradankadawala–Habarana–Trincomalee main road at point 82/3 within the Dimbulagala Divisional Secretariat area, is being rebuilt as a concrete structure 13.4 meters wide and 60 meters long.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Urban Development, the decision was taken due to safety concerns, with the project costing Rs. 251 million.

The ministry said that 75% of the work has already been completed, and the bridge is expected to be handed over to the public soon.

The previous narrow structure had led to several accidents in recent years, prompting urgent reconstruction.

Once completed, the new bridge will provide safer and smoother transport for residents and travelers along this key route.

The project is being carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development. (Newswire)
