Kalutara District Youth Sports Festival Concludes Under Health Minister’s Patronage

The closing ceremony of the Kalutara District Youth Sports Festival, organised in conjunction with the 36th National Youth Sports Festival 2026, was held in a grand manner yesterday (October 4) at the Kalutara District Sports Complex on Siri Piyarathana Mawatha in Bandaragama.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
Addressing the event, Minister Jayatissa emphasised the national importance of developing a healthy younger generation with strong sporting abilities. He also explained the new programme being implemented by the Government to identify talented athletes emerging at district level through such sporting events and help them progress to the national level.
Certificates, medals and trophies were presented to athletes who demonstrated outstanding performances during the competition by the Minister and other distinguished guests.
The Panadura Divisional Secretariat Division won the overall championship of this year’s Kalutara District Youth Sports Festival, while the Matugama Divisional Secretariat Division secured the runners-up position.
Wasana Bakers and Gihan Digital Printing Lab supported the successful organisation of the sports festival as its main sponsors.
Kalutara District Members of Parliament Oshani Umanga and Nilanthi Kottahachchi, Bandaragama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Samith Jayage, the Director of the National Youth Services Council for the Western Province, the Assistant Director of the National Youth Services Council in Kalutara District, the Bandaragama Divisional Secretary, government officials, National Youth Services Council officials and a large number of sports enthusiasts attended the event.
