JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva Meets Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva and a delegation currently visiting India met Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on the afternoon of October 1 and held discussions.

The meeting also recalled the previous meeting held in February, with extensive discussions on the continued development of relations between Sri Lanka and India in a positive and strengthened manner.

Particular attention was given to the impact of technological development on a country’s development. Discussions also covered the importance of political parties maintaining close and continuous communication with the general public and young people, as well as identifying the issues faced by the public and working towards providing timely solutions.

The importance of exchanging knowledge and experience between Sri Lanka and India, as well as between political parties in the two countries, was also discussed as a means of achieving these objectives.

The participants also exchanged views on the measures taken by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to maintain close engagement with the public and the attention given to such engagement.

The meeting further discussed the challenges faced by both countries amid growing global crises and possible areas for common action in the future.

Attention was also given to opportunities for Indian investment in Sri Lanka and to further strengthening cultural relations between the two countries.

The meeting took place as the JVP delegation concluded a five-day visit to India. Following the meeting, Minister Jaishankar said the two sides had held a “good discussion” on strengthening the deep bonds of friendship between India and Sri Lanka, adding that India would continue to support Sri Lanka’s progress and prosperity as a trusted partner.
