JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva Meets Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta During India Visit

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva and a delegation currently visiting India met Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in Delhi on September 30. Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood and a delegation from the Delhi government also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Delhi Chief Minister and officials briefed the Sri Lankan delegation on major projects and programmes being implemented by the Delhi government to address public needs, promote public welfare and support the development of the city.
Particular attention was given to environmentally friendly transportation, including electric bus projects, the promotion of electric vehicles and the expansion of charging infrastructure. The Delhi government is expanding its electric-bus public transport system, and the meeting included an exchange of information on the addition of a significant number of electric buses during 2026.
The two sides also discussed programmes aimed at improving women’s welfare, economic empowerment and independence.
Discussions further covered initiatives being implemented in Delhi to improve the welfare of children and the wider public, as well as developments in education and healthcare.
Tilvin Silva briefed the Delhi delegation on the social and economic changes currently taking place in Sri Lanka and programmes being implemented to improve the living standards and welfare of the people.
The two sides also exchanged views on the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme, particularly its efforts to promote sustainable environmental cleanliness across the country and encourage changes in public attitudes.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two delegations to exchange experiences relating to political and administrative practices, public welfare and development programmes in Sri Lanka and Delhi.
