James Van Der Beek’s wife Kimberly shares emotional update six months after his death

James Van Der Beek’s wife has marked the couple’s first wedding anniversary since his tragic passing.

The Dawson’s Creek star died at the age of 48 after being diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer.

He had six children with his wife, Kimberly.

Kimberly has continued to document her grief since losing the love of her life, with her most recent Instagram post paying tribute to what would’ve been their 16th wedding anniversary.

“16 years ago I was the luckiest woman in the world to marry @vanderjames,” Kimberly wrote.

“The beauty of this marriage continues to unfold everyday with all these incredible children we have.

“He continues to be present and guide us. I’m eternally grateful.”

The touching tribute to her late husband also included a carousel of images featuring family photos.

In March, Van Der Beek’s daughter shared a brave message following the loss of her dad revealing she still talks to him every day.

His daughter Emilia shared an emotional video on her mother’s Instagram to remember her dad on what would have been his 49th birthday.

Along with paying tribute, the brave nine-year-old offered advice on how to cope with grief after saying goodbye to her father.

“So today is my dad’s birthday and the number one thing for somebody’s passing is to talk to them, and let your emotions out,” Emilia said.

“If you miss them, you can cry and you can talk to them. I talk to my dad every day.

“I start with a sentence and I say, ‘Hi dad, I miss you and I love you so much and will never stop loving you’.

“I just tell him about my day, how I’m feeling.

“You have to feel them in your heart; they’re watching over you. They’re a part of your body and in a good place.”

Emilia went on to say she found comfort in knowing her dad was no longer in pain, and reassured others it’s okay to cry and feel sad.

Van Der Beek died on February 11 with his family confirming he “passed peacefully” on social media.

In the new video, Emilia also thanked all the people who had donated to the GoFundMe created by friends to support the family.

The page has since raised over $US2.9 million for Van Der Beek’s wife and children.
