International Conference on Plastics, Innovation and Environmental Sustainability Opens in Colombo

The inaugural ceremony of the International Conference on Plastics, Innovation and Environmental Sustainability (ICPIES 2026) was successfully held at the King’s Court, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo.

Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Dr. Harini Amarasuriya attended the event as the Chief Guest.

The proceedings commenced with the opening remarks by Professor Banduni Athapattu, Co-Chair of the conference and Professor of Environmental Engineering at the Open University of Sri Lanka, followed by the welcome address delivered by Professor Jagath Manathunga, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Moratuwa.

Senior Professor P. M. C. Thilakaratne, Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Sri Lanka, also delivered remarks as the Guest of Honour.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya addressed the gathering in English, highlighting the importance of addressing plastic-related challenges through innovation and environmentally sustainable approaches.
