An Indian fishing vessel and the nine Indian fishermen who were apprehended by the Sri Lanka Navy for allegedly engaging in unauthorised fishing within Sri Lankan waters were brought to Kankesanthurai Harbour this morning (October 4, 2026).

The vessel and the fishermen were taken into Navy custody on October 3, 2026, while they were reportedly engaged in unauthorised fishing within Sri Lankan territorial waters south of Delft Island, Jaffna.

The fishermen and vessel were apprehended after allegedly entering Sri Lankan waters in violation of the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and engaging in fishing activities without authorisation.

The vessel and the nine fishermen are scheduled to be handed over to the Jaffna Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department for further legal action.
