Hilton Colombo Celebrates 39 Years at the Heart of Sri Lankan Hospitality

Hilton Colombo is celebrating its 39th anniversary this September, marking nearly four decades as one of Sri Lanka’s pioneering international hotels and the flagship Hilton property in the country.

Since opening its doors in 1987, Hilton Colombo has grown alongside the capital, becoming a familiar landmark in the city’s hospitality, business and social landscape. Over the years, the hotel has welcomed international travellers, local guests, families, business leaders, world figures and generations of Team Members.

The hotel has also been the venue for numerous significant events, including CHOGM 2013, Colombo Fashion Week, official state banquets and national celebrations. It has hosted Commonwealth Heads of State, former U.S. Presidents and other visiting dignitaries, while its event spaces have witnessed countless important occasions.

Family celebrations have formed an equally important part of the hotel's history, with more than 20,000 weddings held at Hilton Colombo over the years, making it part of family memories that span generations.

Today, Hilton Colombo features 368 guestrooms and suites, six restaurants and bars, and 2,891 square metres of meetings and events space. Its pillar-less Grand Ballroom continues to accommodate major corporate and social gatherings, alongside venues including The Blue and Ruby for a range of events.

The hotel has also established a distinctive presence in Colombo’s dining and entertainment scene. Graze Kitchen offers local and international cuisine through its show kitchens, while Emperor’s Wok celebrates the traditions of Chinese fine dining. L.A.B. is known for relaxed afternoons overlooking the Lotus Pond and jazz evenings, while Café Kai offers cakes and pastries. SunsetBlu combines poolside dining with evening entertainment, and Stella Karaoke Lounge & Bar offers music-focused nights.

Another long-standing tradition is Oktoberfest at Hilton Colombo, which has been celebrated for more than three decades. This year’s edition is scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 7.

Reflecting on the anniversary, Manesh Fernando, Area General Manager for Hilton Sri Lanka and General Manager of Hilton Colombo, said the milestone represents much more than the passage of time, highlighting the contribution of Team Members, guests and families who have helped shape the hotel's story.

As Hilton Colombo enters its 40th year, the hotel continues to evolve while maintaining its longstanding focus on hospitality and connection. From major international events and business gatherings to weddings, dining experiences and everyday celebrations, Hilton Colombo remains an established part of Colombo’s story and Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry.
