Heavy Showers Expected in Several Provinces as Low-Pressure System Moves Westward

Merril Mendis, Director of the Forecasting Division of the Department of Meteorology, said the system would continue to influence the island’s weather.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and North Western provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura and Galle districts.

In other parts of the country, showers or thundershowers may occur after 1.00 p.m.

Mendis also warned that some areas could experience fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 millimetres.

The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimise accidents caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.

Residents are urged to remain alert to changing weather conditions and follow official weather advisories
