Heavy Rain of Over 100mm Expected in Several Areas of Sri Lanka
· Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is expected to experience a further increase in rainfall due to atmospheric disturbances in the lower atmosphere over the Bay of Bengal near the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Jeevan Karunaratne, Deputy Director of the Forecasting Division, said cloudy skies were expected across the country as the unsettled weather conditions continued.
Showers or thundershowers are likely at times in the Western, Northern, Eastern and Southern provinces. Other parts of the island may experience showers or thundershowers after 1 p.m.
Over 100mm of Rain Possible
Some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North Western provinces, as well as the Anuradhapura District, could receive rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres.
Other parts of the country may experience fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 millimetres in some areas.
Public Urged to Take Precautions
The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thunderstorms.
Residents are urged to remain alert during periods of heavy rain and avoid unnecessary exposure to lightning and hazardous weather conditions.
