Hasini Rangika Wins 16 Gold Medals at Colombo University Graduation

Dr. Hasini Rangika Epa Arachchchi has achieved an exceptional academic milestone by winning 16 gold medals at the 2026 Graduation Ceremony of the University of Colombo, becoming a standout graduate of the Faculty of Medicine.

A member of the MBBS programme, Dr. Hasini emerged as the Valedictorian of her batch, securing First Class Honours across all five MBBS academic components, including the final examination.

Her outstanding academic performance also placed her first on the All-Island Merit List for medical appointments. She was further recognised with the prestigious Professor Thilak Hettiarachchi Award for Academic Excellence.

During her medical studies, Dr. Hasini received several Faculty List (Dean’s List) Awards and a Mitsubishi UFJ Foundation Scholarship, while also making significant contributions to medical research.

Her research work has included studies focusing on mental health and the diagnosis of scrub typhus during pregnancy, which received national recognition. She is currently continuing research into dengue and respiratory diseases.

Dr. Hasini secured 16 of the 32 gold medals awarded for the MBBS programme this year, marking a remarkable academic achievement.

Her success has brought pride to the University of Colombo and Sri Lanka, while serving as an inspiring example for future generations of medical students, academics and researchers.
