Grand Park Arena to Stage Landmark Picklefest 2026 After Pickleball Expansion

Since opening in 2020, Grand Park Arena in Piliyandala has grown into one of Sri Lanka’s premier multi-sport facilities. The venue initially gained attention for its indoor cricket training nets built to ICC standards, before expanding into a full outdoor cricket arena featuring a centre matting wicket and floodlighting, offering a complete training and playing environment for athletes of all levels.

Continuing its mission to promote sport and recreation, the facility has now expanded into pickleball, the world’s fastest-growing sport. With newly developed dedicated courts, Grand Park Arena aims to build a strong pickleball community in Sri Lanka by making the game more accessible and encouraging both competitive and recreational participation.

A major highlight of this expansion will be Picklefest 2026, scheduled for June 13 and 14 at the venue. The event will mark the first-ever pickleball tournament hosted by Grand Park Arena and is expected to introduce a fresh sporting experience for both players and spectators.

Organisers say Picklefest 2026 will go beyond a traditional tournament, taking shape as a sporting festival. In addition to matches, the event will feature food and beverage stalls, entertainment segments, sponsor activations, social spaces, and family-friendly activities, creating a lively community atmosphere around the sport.

“We wanted to build something larger than just a competition,” said Hashini Ranasinghe, Director of Grand Park Arena. “Pickleball naturally connects people, and Picklefest is designed to celebrate that spirit by bringing competition, community, and entertainment together in one event.”

She further noted that the initiative aligns with the arena’s long-term vision of introducing new sporting opportunities to Sri Lanka.

“From cricket to pickleball, our goal has always been to grow communities through sport. We believe Picklefest 2026 will be a landmark moment for both the venue and the development of pickleball in the country,” she added.

The tournament will include multiple competitive categories, welcoming both seasoned players and beginners. Organisers anticipate participation from across Sri Lanka, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity nationwide.

With strong backing from sponsors and the sporting community, Picklefest 2026 is set to become a major highlight on Sri Lanka’s sporting calendar and a new milestone in Grand Park Arena’s continued evolution.
