Government Has Revived Postal Service, Deputy Minister Says

Sri Lanka’s postal service, which was on the verge of being shut down, has been brought forward by the new government within two years, Deputy Minister Kaushalya Ariyarathne said.
A further promotional programme for Sri Lanka Post’s Speed Post courier service was held under the patronage of Deputy Minister Kaushalya Ariyarathne.
The courier service, introduced by Sri Lanka Post, provides facilities for the transportation of gifts, school-related items, business goods, documents and commercial products.
The service operates through post offices across the country, offering secure and fast delivery at affordable rates.
Another promotional programme for the service commenced in front of the Rajagiriya Post Office.
Speaking at the event, Arosha Athapattu, Mayor of the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council, and Deputy Minister Kaushalya Ariyarathne highlighted several developments within the postal service.
The Deputy Minister said the postal service, which was facing the prospect of closure, has been brought forward under the new government. She said solutions have been provided to employees’ issues, while post offices across the country have been renovated and new post offices established.
She further said new vehicles have been acquired and that there are plans to provide 165 electric motorcycles. An allowance has also been increased to Rs. 2,000, she said.
While postal services are declining around the world, Sri Lanka is moving forward with its Postal Department, the Deputy Minister said, adding that the postal service would become an institution that everyone can benefit from in the coming years.
