Gnanasara Thera sent back to prison to complete six-year sentence

The Court of Appeal has ordered Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera to be imprisoned from Monday to serve the remainder of a six-year prison sentence previously imposed on him.

Gnanasara Thera had served only around nine months of the original six-year sentence when he was granted a presidential pardon.

The Supreme Court subsequently invalidated the presidential pardon, paving the way for the remaining period of the sentence to be enforced.

The Court of Appeal on Monday ordered that Gnanasara Thera be imprisoned to serve the balance of the sentence.

Gnanasara Thera, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), was recently arrested after a warrant was issued over his failure to appear before the Court of Appeal.
