Gampaha Schools Receive Rs. 4.7 Million Worth of Sports Equipment

Forty-seven selected schools in the Gampaha District have received sports and exercise equipment sets worth Rs. 100,000 each under a programme designed to improve students’ sporting abilities and make school sports training more structured.

The distribution took place on October 12 at the Gampaha District Secretariat.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne said the equipment would help coaches train students using a more structured approach based on theoretical knowledge.

He emphasised that the equipment was not intended solely for cricket, but could also be used to develop the sporting skills of children participating in a wide range of sports.

Programme to Cover 500 Schools Islandwide

The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Sports in line with the government’s sports policy.

Under the programme, sports training equipment sets are scheduled to be distributed to 500 schools across Sri Lanka.

The initiative aims to strengthen training facilities at school level and support the development of young athletes.

Gampaha District Secretary Lalinda Gamage, Additional Secretary Asiri Weerasekara, Director General of Planning at the Ministry of Sports Kaumini Ratnayake, and other government officials attended the distribution ceremony.
