Former State Minister's ex-private secretary arrested over Rs. 8.1 mln bribery case

A development officer attached to the Uva Provincial Council, who previously served as the private secretary to former State Minister of Primary Industries Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, has been taken into custody by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The arrest was executed following an extensive investigation conducted by bribery commission detectives regarding financial irregularities and an alleged bribery solicitation amounting to Rs. 8.1 million.

According to officials from the anti-corruption agency, the suspect is accused of obtaining or soliciting illicit financial benefits in connection with official approvals and project transactions executed during his tenure assisting the state minister.

CIABOC confirmed that statements have been recorded from the individual and that legal steps are underway to produce the suspect before the Colombo Magistrate's Court for remand custody.
