Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe Appears Before Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe appeared before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today, September 30, to attend proceedings in connection with the case relating to his 2023 visit to the United Kingdom while he was serving as President.

The case concerns allegations that public funds were misused in connection with the UK visit, during which he attended the graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has completed its investigation and submitted the relevant case files to the Attorney General for advice.

Wickremesinghe was accompanied to court by his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe. Several United National Party (UNP) MPs were also present at the court premises.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today ordered that the case be taken up again on November 11 to obtain the Attorney General’s advice.
