Fire breaks out at computer shop in Mahabage

A sudden fire broke out inside an electronics and computer retail shop situated along the main commercial strip in the Mahabage area on Wednesday evening. The blaze generated thick clouds of smoke, prompting alarm among neighboring shopkeepers and pedestrians.

Firefighting units from neighboring municipal stations and local police rushed to the scene immediately upon being alerted. Teams deployed water cannons and fire retardants to suppress the flames before they could spread to adjacent commercial buildings in the densely packed shopping district.

Police reported that customers and staff inside the premises were safely evacuated, and no injuries or casualties have been recorded. However, substantial inventory consisting of computers, laptops, and peripheral hardware sustained severe damage due to the fire and smoke.

Mahabage Police have launched a formal investigation to determine the origin of the fire, with preliminary reports suggesting an electrical short circuit within the shop's power distribution board.
