Electronic revenue licence system temporarily suspended in all provinces except Western

The Department of Motor Traffic announced that the issuance of motor vehicle revenue licences through the Electronic Revenue Licensing (eRL 2.0) System will be temporarily halted in all provinces except the Western Province. The suspension is scheduled to commence on Friday, September 25, 2026, and will remain in place until Monday, September 28, 2026.

Authorities explained that the brief disruption is necessary to carry out planned server upgrades, database optimizations, and core system maintenance aimed at enhancing transaction security and service capacity across regional licensing centers. The Western Province operates on a distinct infrastructure segment and will therefore maintain regular operational services without interruption.

Motorists whose annual revenue licences expire during the downtime window have been advised to obtain their renewals in advance or utilize online self-service options where available prior to the commencement of maintenance. Provincial motor traffic departments have coordinated with law enforcement agencies to ensure leniency for vehicle owners impacted directly by the scheduled downtime.

Full online and in-person revenue licensing operations across the Central, Southern, Northern, Eastern, North Western, North Central, Uva, and Sabaragamuwa provinces are slated to resume normal processing from Tuesday morning, September 29, 2026.
