Drug suspect revealed as accomplice in Middeniya woman’s murder

A suspect detained under a detention order in connection with a drug-related offence has been revealed to have aided and abetted the shooting and killing of a woman in the Middeniya Police Division.

The 21-year-old suspect, a resident of Middeniya, was arrested with 'Ice' (crystal methamphetamine) on August 19 and subsequently detained at the Middeniya Police Station under a detention order for further questioning.

During investigations, police had uncovered that he had aided and abetted the shooting and killing of a woman in the Middeniya Police Division on August 12, 2026.

The suspect was produced before the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court yesterday (23) and was remanded until September 2, 2026.

Meanwhile, another suspect who allegedly aided and abetted the murder was arrested yesterday by officers attached to the Tangalle Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau and handed over to the Middeniya Police.

The second suspect is a 24-year-old resident of the Middeniya area, according to police.

Middeniya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
