Dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka surpass 96,000

The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has increased to 96,040, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.

In a statement, the Unit said 10,155 dengue cases were reported during August alone.

A total of 72 dengue-related deaths have been reported so far this year.

The Western Province has recorded the highest number of cases, with 50,760 infections. This is followed by the Southern Province with 13,931 cases, the Central Province with 8,788 cases, and the Sabaragamuwa Province with 7,910 cases.

The Gampaha District has recorded the highest number of dengue cases at 20,444. Meanwhile, 19,008 cases have been reported from Colombo, 7,043 from Kandy, 6,181 from Kalutara, and 6,154 from Matara.

The National Dengue Control Unit further stated that 50 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas across the island continue to be identified as high-risk areas for dengue.
