Danu Innasithamby Honoured as “Trilingual Media Personality of the Year 2026” at Global Laurel Excellence Awards
· Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan media personality, television host, actor and content creator Danu Innasithamby has been recognised as the “Trilingual Media Personality of the Year 2026” at the Global Laurel Excellence Awards 2026, celebrating his contribution to Sri Lanka’s media landscape and his ability to connect with audiences across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
The recognition holds special significance for Danu, whose career has been built around communication, storytelling and the belief that language should bring people together rather than divide them.
Working across Tamil, Sinhala and English, Danu has established a distinctive presence in Sri Lankan media, engaging audiences through television, digital platforms, interviews, entertainment and social initiatives. Over the years, his work has allowed him to speak to Sri Lankans from different communities while remaining deeply connected to his own roots and identity.
Receiving an award specifically recognising his work as a trilingual media personality is particularly meaningful to him.
“Language has always been one of the greatest gifts in my life. Tamil is my mother tongue and an important part of who I am, but being able to communicate in Sinhala and English has given me the privilege of connecting with people across this beautiful country. I have always believed that when we understand each other’s language, we begin to understand each other a little better too.”
From his beginnings in media to becoming a familiar face and voice across multiple platforms, Danu’s journey has included television presenting, radio, print and digital media, acting, interviewing some of the most interesting personalities from Sri Lanka and beyond, and creating content that ranges from entertainment to conversations on identity, culture and social issues.
He currently serves as Head of Channel – Hi TV, while continuing his work as a television host and media personality through programmes including Date with Danu, Danu on Fire, Danu ta Kiyanna and The Buzz with Danu. His career has also extended into acting, authorship, brand collaborations and community-focused initiatives through the Danu Innasithamby Foundation.
For Danu, however, the award is also a reminder of where his story began.
“I will always be a Jaffna boy who found his way in Colombo with a lot of dreams, plenty of determination and, thankfully, three languages to talk my way through life! Every award is special, but this one celebrates something I am incredibly proud of—the ability to communicate with Sri Lanka in all three languages.”
The Global Laurel Excellence Awards 2026 recognition adds another milestone to a career that continues to evolve across media, entertainment and public engagement.
Danu dedicated the recognition to the audiences who have supported his journey over the years, particularly those who have welcomed him into their homes through television and followed his work across different stages of his career.
“Media is ultimately about people. If someone has watched a show, read something I wrote, laughed at something I said, or felt represented because I spoke to them in a language that felt like home, then that is the greatest achievement. This award belongs to everyone who has been part of that journey.”
