Court rejects Shiranthi Rajapaksa's anticipatory bail application

The Maligakanda Magistrate's Court on Monday turned down the anticipatory bail application filed on behalf of former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

Her legal team had lodged the motion in an effort to shield her from imminent arrest by investigating authorities looking into ongoing state financial and property probes.

Following submissions by the legal representatives and consideration of the ongoing investigation, the magistrate concluded that there were inadequate grounds to grant anticipatory bail.
