Court rejects Dayasiri Jayasekara's request to be recognised as SLFP General Secretary

The Western Province Civil Appellate High Court on Monday rejected an application submitted by Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara requesting that he be officially recognized as the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

The petition was part of ongoing legal battles surrounding the leadership and administrative authority within the SLFP, following internal fractures and conflicting appointments by rival factions. Jayasekara had sought an injunction and legal sanction preventing rival party officials from obstructing his performance of secretarial duties.

Upon reviewing the legal arguments presented by all parties involved, the High Court bench ruled that the petitioner's request could not be granted at this stage, dealing a procedural setback to Jayasekara's faction while the substantive case remains pending before the judiciary.
