Colombo Company Fined Rs. 500,000 for Selling Kiri Samba Above Price Ceiling

Colombo ‘King Fisher Marketing’ company fined Rs. 500,000 for selling Kiri Samba at a higher price!
‘King Fisher Marketing Pvt Ltd’ located at Old Yon Street (No. 111, 113), Colombo 12, which sold rice at a price higher than the maximum retail price, was fined Rs. 500,000 (500,000) by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court No. 5 today (10) for selling rice at a price higher than the maximum retail price.
A case had been filed against the company for selling local Kiri Samba rice at Rs. 340 per kilo (Rs. 1700 per 5 kg pack), violating the maximum retail price of Rs. 260 set by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
The company was fined this amount after it pleaded guilty to the relevant charges before the court today (10).
Consumers should always remember to be mindful of the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) set by the government when purchasing essential commodities including rice, and to reject any price higher than that.
