Civil Intelligence Front Raises Concerns Over De

Speaking at a media briefing held by the Civil Intelligence Front, its Chairman Sanjaya Mahawatta raised concerns regarding a tender called for the procurement of dental chairs.

Mahawatta alleged that the tender had been called while legal proceedings relating to the matter were still underway.

He said the case was currently being heard by the Court of Appeal, adding that the procurement involved dental chairs along with a further 57 items.

According to Mahawatta, the circumstances surrounding the tender raised concerns about whether an improper process had taken place within the Ministry of Health.

He said the Civil Intelligence Front would also lodge a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the matter.

Mahawatta further stated that the projects in question had been implemented using World Bank funding.

Public records confirm that World Bank-funded health projects are being implemented in Sri Lanka, including the Primary Healthcare System Enhancing Project, which has a procurement plan covering health-system strengthening and health-service delivery.

The Ministry of Health also maintains an official list of ongoing and past procurement and tender notices, while Parliament’s 2025 performance report records procurement of dental equipment, including 15 dental chairs, as part of an upgrade of oral-health services.
