CIC Holdings Provides Full Sponsorship to Rumesha Tharanga for 2028 Olympic Gold Dream

CIC Holdings PLC has announced full sponsorship for world champion javelin thrower Rumesha Tharanga Pathirana, as he sets his sights on winning Sri Lanka’s first-ever Olympic gold medal at the 2028 Olympic Games.
Under the partnership, CIC Holdings will serve as Tharanga’s Official Nutrition & Wellness Partner, supporting him throughout the intensive training, discipline and demanding preparation required as he targets success at international competitions.
The company said its support will focus on strengthening the athlete throughout his preparation while contributing to his nutritional needs and overall wellbeing.
Rumesha Tharanga’s Record-Breaking 2026 Season
Tharanga has enjoyed a highly successful 2026 season and has established himself among the world’s leading javelin throwers.
His achievements highlighted during the announcement include:
Rome: Set a new Sri Lankan national record with a throw of 92.62 metres.
Commonwealth Games: Won the gold medal and secured what was described as Sri Lanka’s first Diamond League championship.
Diamond League Final, Budapest: Produced a throw of 91.09 metres to win gold and strengthen his position as the world’s No. 1 javelin thrower.
2026 Asian Games, Japan: Won gold with a throw of 88.55 metres, described as the first gold medal won by a Sri Lankan at an Asian Games in the history of the event.
CIC Holdings, which has been closely involved with the lives of Sri Lankans for more than six decades through sectors including agriculture, healthcare and consumer services, said the partnership forms part of a long-term programme focused on Tharanga’s journey towards the 2028 Olympics.
Tharanga also addressed the gathering, speaking about his upcoming competitions and his vision for the next stage of his career as he works towards his Olympic goal.
