Cabinet greenlights Rs. 700 Million tourism development project for Hamilton Canal

A Rs. 700 million tourism development project has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers to transform the Hamilton Canal, Negombo Lagoon, and surrounding Western Province waterfronts into a major nature-based and heritage-focused destination.

Based on a project report from the Western Provincial Council, the initiative will develop the stretch of the Hamilton Canal from the King’s Island Jetty in the Negombo Lagoon to the Ma Oya estuary.

Funded by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), the joint proposal was submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, and the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government. (Newswire)
