Cabinet approves 39 new health sector projects for 2027

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a comprehensive proposal submitted by the Minister of Health and Mass Media to launch 39 new healthcare infrastructure projects across Sri Lanka in 2027. The development initiative is aimed at modernizing regional health services and easing pressure on major tertiary facilities.

The sanctioned projects encompass the construction of specialized intensive care units, modern cardiology wings, and neonatal care centers in under-resourced rural and district hospitals. Upgrades to laboratory diagnostic services and medical oxygen delivery networks are also included under the capital investment plan.

Government spokespersons highlighted that improving regional facilities would reduce the need for rural patients to travel extensive distances to Colombo and Kandy for specialized surgical procedures and critical care interventions.

The Treasury has been instructed to incorporate the necessary budgetary allocations into the forthcoming Medium-Term Fiscal Framework, while procurement processes will adhere to enhanced transparency standards to ensure timely execution.
