Brisbane premiership hero Will Ashcroft takes another swipe at All-Australian selectors

Brisbane superstar Will Ashcroft has taken another swipe at All-Australian selectors as he continues to celebrate the Lions’ incredible three-peat. Ashcroft played a starring role in the grand final win, finishing a controversial second in the Norm Smith Medal as he inspired the Lions to a stunning seven-point victory over Fremantle. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Brisbane Lions celebrate historic three-peat at Riverstage But despite now boasting three premiership medals, two Norm Smith Medals and two Gary Ayres Medals as the best player in the finals, Ashcroft is still bemused over being snubbed in the All-Australian team.

On Wednesday, Ashcroft posted an AI image of himself celebrating the premiership with a blazer over his shoulders, alongside brother Levi and Lachie Neale. “Grateful to finally get my blazer four weeks late,” he wrote with two laughing emojis. He also added: “Stay mad” with two clown emojis at the bottom. Ashcroft, 22, enjoyed a standout season and was clearly among the unluckiest to miss out on selection in the All-Australian team after making the squad. He was particularly dominant in the second half of the season, averaging over 30 touches a game, which culminated in his epic finals series. It’s not the first time Ashcroft has taken a swipe at the All-Australian selectors.

After the team was announced, he congratulated his teammates who made it before posting a series of not-so-subtle pictures of NBA figures with bemused, incredulous and determined expressions on their faces. Speaking the day after the grand final, Ashcroft told Fox Footy he used the snubbing as motivation. “Obviously there is plenty of motivation going into a grand final outside of that, but yeah that was probably something that I had a bit of fun on Instagram with,” he said. “It was probably sitting in the back of my mind, I was pretty pissed off I didn’t make that team and I just used that as a bit of fuel, but you don’t need too much when you’re going for a three-peat.”

Ashcroft has been very active on social media since the Lions won the premiership, posting numerous celebration photos. He also had a cheeky dig at Wharfie Time in one of his posts by attaching the AC/DC song Hells Bells in a photo of himself with legendary coach Leigh Matthews.
