Queensland has recorded its second case of H5 avian flu after a dead migratory seabird tested positive on the Sunshine Coast.

The wild shearwater found dead at Castaways Beach returned a positive result for the disease from the Queensland Government's biosecurity science laboratory last night.

The first case was on Moreton Island in late July.

Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett has told parliament protecting the state's multi-million dollar poultry sector is the government's top priority.
