Barista Awards First-Ever NVQ Level 4 Professional Certificates to Baristas

Barista Coffee Lanka (Pvt) Ltd has awarded NVQ Level 4 professional certificates to its first batch of trained baristas, marking a significant milestone in professional coffee and hospitality training in Sri Lanka.

Barista is one of Sri Lanka’s prominent coffee-shop brands, with its network spread across major cities throughout the country. The company has been developing structured training programmes aimed at preparing skilled professionals for the growing coffee-shop and hospitality sector. Barista has previously announced that its NVQ Level 4 Barista Training Programme received accreditation under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).

The certificates were presented following the completion of a specialised training programme designed to provide newcomers to the coffee-shop industry with professional skills. The certificate presentation ceremony was held at the RNH Auditorium in Kotte.

The first batch consisted of 25 trainees.

Speaking at the event, Barista Coffee Lanka (Pvt) Ltd Chief Executive Officer and Director Dilupa Pathirana said the programme would introduce a group of professionally trained workers to Sri Lanka’s coffee and hospitality industry.

He said Barista, which is continuing to expand its business network, had professionally equipped the trainees and prepared them to join the industry.

The trainees received comprehensive training in hospitality services as well as the preparation of coffee-based beverages and other related skills.

Pathirana said the company was pleased to welcome a professionally trained group into the growing coffee industry and expressed confidence in the future employment opportunities available to the trainees.

He further described the initiative as a significant step towards developing professional standards and creating skilled employment opportunities within the coffee sector.

Barista Coffee Lanka (Pvt) Ltd Head of Human Resources and Administration Harsha Chanaka and Head of Skills Development Damith Ranwella also participated in the event.

The parents of the newly certified professionals were also present at the certificate presentation ceremony.
