Australian Wins World Porridge-Making Championship Title

Sydney’s Robert Reid won the Specialty Porridge Competition with an unusual creation inspired by his Scottish and Sicilian family heritage.

His winning dish was a porridge cannoli, combining traditional porridge with ricotta, mascarpone and toasted oats inside a Marsala-infused shell.

Reid had qualified for the world championships after winning Australia’s inaugural national porridge competition on the NSW Central Coast earlier this year.

The World Porridge Making Championships were held in Carrbridge in the Scottish Highlands, attracting competitors from 14 countries.

While Reid won the specialty category, the overall Golden Spurtle title went to Dutch competitor Gina Saarberg for her traditional porridge made with oatmeal, water and salt.

Australia has now won the specialty category for the second consecutive year, following Melbourne food stylist Caroline Velik’s victory in 2025.

Reid’s unusual combination has given Australia another memorable moment at one of the world’s quirkiest food competitions.
