Air pollution linked to around 7,000 deaths annually in Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Health has raised concerns over the growing impact of air pollution on public health, stating that approximately 7,000 premature deaths are recorded in Sri Lanka each year due to pollution-related effects.

Health officials highlighted that prolonged exposure to polluted air can contribute to serious health conditions, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, increasing the risk of early deaths among vulnerable groups.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of addressing air quality concerns through stronger environmental measures, public awareness, and coordinated action to reduce the health risks associated with air pollution.
