50th National Sports Festival 2026: Wushu Competition Concludes in Colombo

The Wushu competition of the 50th National Sports Festival 2026, organised jointly by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Department of Sports Development, concluded after three days of competition at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.

Around 170 athletes representing all nine provinces participated in this year’s Wushu competition.

Best Athletes in the Taolu Events

• Best Male Athlete: T.B. Ranasinghe – Western Province

• Best Female Athlete: M.L.D.T.S. Gunasekara – Western Province

Best Athletes in the Sanda Events

• Best Male Athlete: S.R. Kumara – Uva Province, 65 kg category

• Best Female Athlete: W.P.M. Madumali – Eastern Province, 56 kg category

The competition was officiated by W.G. Upali Anurasiri, an international Wushu judge, who served as the chief referee.

The closing ceremony was attended by Wajira Gunawardena, Additional Director General of the Department of Sports Development; Nuwan Prasad, Chief Accountant; Anula Wijesinghe, Assistant Director of Sports; Sisira Wellegedara; Nayanananda, Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Sports; and several other officials.
