20th LSR Colombo Marathon Gets Underway with 1,269 Runners

The 20th edition of the LSR Colombo Marathon, one of Sri Lanka’s longest-running international marathon events, commenced this morning (October 4, 2026).

Approximately 1,269 runners from 10 countries took part in this year’s event, including nearly 150 international runners, according to the organisers.

The marathon featured four main categories: the full marathon, half marathon, 10-kilometre race and 5-kilometre Fun Run.

The 42.195-kilometre full marathon started near the BMICH and is scheduled to pass through Borella, Dematagoda, Peliyagoda, Wattala, Pamunugama, Thalahena and Pitipana, before finishing at Negombo Beach Park.

The 21.097-kilometre half marathon follows part of the same route and is scheduled to finish in the Pamunugama area.

The 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre Fun Run events also attracted a large number of local and international runners.

The event has developed into a major running festival stretching from Colombo to Negombo.

Limini Weerasinghe, wife of Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa, was also present to watch the event.
