Easter Sunday Attacks Trial: 15 Accused Found Guilty, Nine Acquitted

Fifteen of the 24 accused in the case over the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks have been found guilty, while nine others were acquitted of all charges.

The landmark verdict in the long-running case against Naufer Moulavi and 23 others was delivered today (22) by the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar.

Court proceedings were temporarily adjourned following the delivery of the verdict and are due to resume for statements from those convicted and further proceedings relating to sentencing.

The case relates to the coordinated Easter Sunday bombings on 21 April 2019, which targeted churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, special security measures were deployed at the Hulftsdorp Court Complex this morning ahead of the judgment.

 Several special police teams were assigned to strengthen security at the court premises as the defendants were brought before the court for the verdict.
